We Know More Than We Can Say
- Traditional learning systems focus on explicit knowledge, which is easy to test. The new culture deals more with the tacit dimension, which is the component of knowing that is assumed, unsaid, and understood as a product of experience and interaction. It is not directly transferable. In the digital world we learn by doing, watching, and experiencing. Few people take classes to learn web browsing, for example. We learn best when we follow our passion, but schools seldom ask students to find their passion. What if we made questions more important than answers? This lets you tap your tacit knowledge, use your imagination, and harness your passion. The new culture lets you spend a lot of time with the ideas, practices, and processes of a discipline so they become second nature.
