5. The Preobservation Conference

• Within 24 hours of an observation, the leaders should meet in the classroom so that the teacher can review the learning objectives and illuminate the context, characteristics of the learners, climate, and culture. This is also where the supervisor can cultivate the relationship and learn about the teacher’s classroom and practices. The teacher should tell the supervisor what to focus on so they can get the feedback they desire. For beginning teachers or teachers in need of improvement, the supervisor should provide the focus. There should also be a discussion about how the teacher will assess the learning.
